Today we had Angel and Lindsay over for dinner. I served sliced tomatoes, fresh peaches, and Jersey sloppy Joes! First I made the sauce by combing 2 parts mayo to one part ketchup. Then I arranged all the ingredients: good Jewish rye bread, cole slaw, deli turkey, ham and Swiss cheese. If you are going to try this, and I highly recommend you do, spread sauce on one piece of rye and top it with a forkful of cole slaw. Then add your meats and cheeses. We like ham and Swiss-- and plain turkey. Roast beef is also delicious, but make sure it is good roast beef and not the salty chemical tasting deli beef that most grocery stores carry. If you can get Boar's Head, that is perfect. Top the sandwich with a plain piece of rye, and slice down the middle. If you want to be fancy-schmacy, stick a frilly, colorful toothpick in the center of each one.
Serve with an egg cream: recipe to follow tomorrow!
